April General Meeting

April is our guild's birthday month and we are celebrating with a potluck and birthday cake.

April's Guest Speaker is Dora Cary

April's guild meeting is sure to be fun and entertaining! Dora Cary, of Orange Dot Quilts, will talk about her method of sandwiching and quilting without basting or gluing. Hum, sounds interesting! Last December, Dora taught the workshop, Beads on a String, at the Old Town Quilt Shop, and whether you attended or not, you won't want to miss this very innovative quilter.

Dora is a Romanian-born American graphic designer and engineer who discovered quilting in 2006. She creates fresh and original quilts, patterns, and more. Come be inspired by her innovative techniques.

More Exciting Events!

Featherweight Maintenance Workshop

Terrie Eskew will be conducting a workshop immediately following the day guild meeting, from 12:00 to 1:00, at St Andrews Methodist Church on Bradley Road. Terra Nichols will provide salad greens so bring your favorite toppings for a great meal. Workshop fee is $15, bring your checkbook and your machine.

Barn Quilt Workshops

Space is still available for John Lettau's "paint your own barn quilt" workshop. Registration can be made at either the day or night guild monthly meetings, or by contacting Terra at to sign up. Purchase your craft size gloss paint prior to class, available at WalMart for $.97 each color. Sharing is encouraged. Workshop fee is $20, bring your checkbook to sign up and choose the date of your workshop.

May's Speaker, Lauretta Crites

Upcoming speaker, Lauretta Crites, will present an exciting lecture, "Create! 7 Keys to Unlocking Your Creative Power" at the May 10 monthly meeting.

A Workshop follows, May 11, entitled "Painted Tyvek Leaves" at the Old Town Quilt Shop, $30 workshop fee and $6 for the kit.

"Who knew a lowly mailing envelope could become so beautiful? The durable "fabric" known as Tyvek can be painted and manipulated in a variety of ways to add dimensional embellishments to your art quilts. This is "up-cycling" at its best. Offered as a project class, or a process class where participants make fabric for their own future projects."

To sign up for this workshop write a $30 check to SMVQG and have $6 on hand for a tyvek kit on the day of the workshop, May 11, to be held at Old Town Quilt Shop. More information about the speaker at
